Janet E Helm CCPI, CPA, CGA

Since 1993, Janet Helm has held a reputable position as a licensed private investigator in British Columbia. She has an extensive financial background spanning three decades in auditing, tax, and accounting. She actively co-manages Shadow Investigations Ltd., a professional investigation agency licensed and serving British Columbia since 1990.

Janet has been a consistent and active member of the Professional Investigator’s Association of BC (PIABC) since 1995 and even served as its president. Her leadership led to the creation of the first introductory private investigation course offered at Douglas College in 1998.

In addition, she was instrumental in developing the Certified Canadian Professional Investigators designation. Recognizing her contribution to education in this field, she was honored as the inaugural recipient of the Taras Hryb Education Builder’s Award.

Janet is a member of numerous professional investigator organizations. These organizations include the Professional Investigator’s Association of BC (PIABC), the American Society of Industrial Security (ASIS), the World Association of Detectives (WAD), and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE). Her involvement in these organizations showcases her dedication to continuous learning and staying current in the field.

A Legacy of Excellence: The Foundations of Our Investigative Firm

Shadow Investigations, established by Janet and Ray Helm, has deep roots in the investigative industry. Janet’s background as a Tax Auditor, with the Canada Revenue Agency (then known as Revenue Canada), in the 1980s, coupled with Ray’s cutting-edge surveillance solutions, culminated in the formation of our company in 1990. Initially, Janet specialized in financial investigations, locates, and background checks, while Ray’s team tackled disability claim investigations for ICBC.

As Shadow Investigations broadened its services into the public sector, the Helm family legacy thrived with their son, Nathan, joining the team in 1996. After Ray’s passing, Nathan joined the management team, and today, Janet and Nathan Helm lead the company alongside a proficient team of investigators and specialists, upholding the founding principles and fostering innovation.
